Faster. Stronger. More Explosive.

PROGRAMS

Elite

  • Athletes 14 and older who have shown the ability to focus, work hard, and participate can join. New athletes are required to attend an assessment/on-ramp session prior to beginning their program.

  • Athletes will participate in speed and agility, explosive work, and strength training. Prior training experience is recommended but not required.

Sports Performance

  • Our Goldfinch SP program is for athletes 10-13 years old. The goal is long-term athletic development and is programmed to build a strong foundation for future athletic success. Once ready, Goldfinch SP athletes can join the Elite class.

  • We like to use the phrase, "Build a better human first, then build a better athlete." We sprint, jump, hop, skip, change directions, as well as squat, lunge, hinge, push, and pull with as many different variations as possible. We are trying to teach and reinforce good movement patterns, create a positive relationship with training, and do so in a fun and encouraging environment.

Rookies

  • These classes are programmed for kids 6-9 years old. Once ready, athletes can join our standard AI class.

  • Our Rookies program is all about fun! We want to have a lot of fun, teach kids to listen, be respectful of coaches and other athletes, learn to enjoy practice and training, and work hard.

TECHNOLOGY AND EQUIPMENT

Shredmill

  • The best way to learn how to sprint is to sprint. And the Shredmill has been invented to allow for maximum development of all sprinting mechanics. This self-powered treadmill was created by XPE Sports for the purpose of NFL Combine training. Goldfinch Sports Performance in Ankeny is one of two facilities in Iowa that use and train with this state-of0-the art equipment.

  • The Shredmill can go up to a 30-degree incline, add hundreds of pounds of resistance, and a monitor that displays all of the statistics of force production, speeds reached, and time performed. If you hit a new top speed, we’ll see it to the tenth of a degree.

Force Plates

  • Speed and agility is all about how much force you can put into the ground, since, as Isaac Newton said, “Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.” Our force plates—by Hawkins Dynamics—tell us how much force is put into the ground, how fast an athlete gets off of the ground, how long they were in the air, and does all of it measuring both feet separately. So if there is an imbalance, we can detect it, address it, and reduce your athlete’s risk of injury.

  • Reports from our force plates are comprehensive, varied, and extremely useful. We use these numbers to tailor your athlete’s training—whether that’s to correct an imbalance, improve their speed, or increase their strength (so they can produce more force). To see a report, request one from tucker@goldfinchathletics.com.

Laser Timing Gates

  • Sprinting is fast—it has to be! And in order to know the difference between a 1.4 second 10-yard sprint and a 1.2 second 10-yard sprint (which is the difference between an 11-second 100m dash and a 13.5-second 100m dash), a hand timer won’t cut it. Especially when progress for an athlete may be 5-hundredths of a second. That’s why we use Dashr laser timing gates. We take the guesswork out of speedwork.

  • Our timing gates are accurate to the 100ths of a second and are the same sensitivity as those used at the NFL combine. They can be reset in a matter of seconds, so multiple athletes can get laser-accurate times in a matter of minutes.

ATHLETE HALL OF FAME

We’ve worked with thousands of athletes, each with their own success stories and goals. The athletes listed below are a few notable names we’ve worked with in the past few years—but by no means is it exhaustive. Will you add your name to the list?

  • JJ Kohl

    5-Star Iowa State football commit

  • Riley Moss

Denver Broncos cornerback and Thorpe Award finalist

  • Devyn Robinson

Wisconsin Volleyball Star and USA Volleyball team member

  • Cole and Cory Myers

College basketball players and owners of Myers Hoops

FAQs

What is the difference between this and what I’m doing at school?

Our goal isn’t to replace what you’re doing if you’re training at school. We want to supplement whatever training you’re doing to maximize the results you can achieve. We take into account all the factors regarding an athlete in and outside the gym—so if you’re not training at school, we will amend our program to include additional weight training that isn’t there from school.

What is a class like?

Everything we do is based on a 60-minute class. But the great thing is, you don’t need to come with any plan at all. Our coaches will explain what the workout is, what the point of the day is, and understand where everyone is starting from that day with their bodies, and what modifications each athlete should undertake. There will then be a warm-up, technique period (or periods) to go over movement safety and efficiency, and then a workout to be done, followed by a cool-down. No prep from you other than simply just showing up and doing the work.
